The industrial edge computer is the connection between the sensors at your facility and the dashboard your team uses. We configure it as part of the monitoring system, then install it with the communications equipment that carries the readings online.
It usually sits out of the way, while its readings appear wherever the team needs them. A useful installation starts with deciding what to measure and how those devices will communicate.
Collecting readings at the facility
We use 900 MHz long-range wireless (LoRaWAN, Digi XBee and similar) for wireless sensor connections. The edge computer receives the readings and prepares them for the dashboard.
Existing equipment can also contribute data. During the project review, we check the outputs already available from meters and other instruments. Connecting those readings alongside new sensors helps the team follow related systems in the same place.
Keeping a local record
The gateway can buffer readings locally when its internet connection drops, then send the stored readings once that connection returns. We configure the collection and connection for the installation so the team knows how the system handles an interruption.
Our base station can use a separate cellular connection. That gives us a way to carry readings online independently of the facility’s network. We also support the equipment remotely, including updates and checks on its connection.
Putting the readings to work
Our monitoring is read-only. The facility team uses the information to decide what to inspect or adjust, working through the controls and procedures already in place.
The dashboard can show an overview of the facility or a closer view of an individual system. We work with the team on those views and on the alerts and reports they need. As the project develops, additional readings can be brought into that same monitoring system.
