A walkthrough of industrial IoT for manufacturing

Watch our 1 November 2023 webinar on bringing utility readings into a shared dashboard, with a live tour and examples from our work.

On 1 November 2023, we gave a webinar on using industrial IoT in manufacturing. Dave Fox introduced the equipment and our approach to installation, then Tom Ulanowski walked through the dashboard before we looked at examples from our work.

We started with a familiar problem: useful readings often stay on a local dial or a paper log. Bringing them into a shared dashboard gives the team a way to follow changes over time and discuss the same information.

A dashboard people can use together

Tom used live weather readings to show how the dashboard works in a browser. He moved between an overview and more detailed views, changed the time window and compared variables on the same graph. He also showed how the same information can be viewed on a phone, tablet or a screen at the facility.

That flexibility matters because people need different levels of detail. A general overview can help the team see how the facility is running, while a dedicated equipment view can help someone investigate an air compressor or a cooling system.

We covered alerts and scheduled reports too. An alert can bring an unusual reading to the right person; a report can put the recent history in front of the team before a meeting.

Following a change through the readings

Dave then walked through projects involving water flow, cooling systems and air compressors. The examples showed how continuous readings can help locate unexpected use and confirm the effect of a repair or scheduling change.

A dashboard supports that conversation, and the people running the equipment supply the context. We work through the readings together and keep monitoring after a change so its effect stays visible.

The recording above includes the dashboard tour and project examples.
